One indication that The Gambia is a moderate Muslim country is the fact that they brew their own beer - and it's pretty good stuff. For many holidaymakers returning to The Gambia, a cool glass of Julbrew is anticipated as much as the warm African sunshine or the welcoming smiles of their favourite hotel staff. Julbrew is a lager available as draft or bottled - the regular strength (4.7%) has a Kingfisher on the label, but there are extra strength varieties produced for export or seasonally with a crocodile, hippo or cobra on the label. The brewery at the Westfield Junction in Kanifang also produces bottled Guinness and a variety of soft drinks including Vimto and Vitamalt.
