Jola Festival

A Jola Festival takes place every few years in The Gambia and celebrates the coming together from all over the country of all the peoples of the Jola tribe. The festival itself runs for a number of days and features dancing, feasting and the ceremonial initiation of younger boy members into the tribe. Kathy Burrington was lucky enough to visit a Jola festival back in 2007 and wrote about her experience for our magazine.
