Hippo Water Savers
1 of 1: Hippo Water Savers

Hippo Water Savers

We have purchased Hippo Water Savers, a simple tried and tested device which when placed in the toilet cisterns will reduce the amount of water used to flush the toilet by about 3 litres (about 1/3 of a tank) which still allows the toilet to flush effectively.

Hippo opens up into an open-ended box which sits in the cistern underneath the float. A small hole also allows slow circulation and prevents stagnation. By reducing the amount of water flushed away, we are conserving an important environmental resource.  Independent research has shown Hippo will provide a 10-15% saving on total water use.

Hippo can pay for itself within the first 2 or 3 months. For those of you on a metered supply this means you also save money on your bills. A typical metered household bill will be reduced by £20 per year.

If you would like one for your home your water supplier will provide them free of charge but it may take some time before they arrive - we were quoted 2-3 months!   Alternatively there are many suppliers who provide them for approx £1.50 each - there are numerous companies on the internet - just google 'Hippo Water Savers'.
