Our school fund was set up in 1989 and together with the help of our clients, we have assisted over 80 schools across The Gambia.
Monies donated by our clients have been matched with equal or greater contributions by The Gambia Experience and we also donate £10 for every 100 holiday questionnaires received. We supply the money to buy materials and where possible the villagers provide the labour and craftsmen. Education is the future of any country and we are proud to help its development in The Gambia.
Our projects for 2006/2007 included:
- Fonkoi Lower Basic - Transformation to staff quarters
- Medina Angalleh Lower Basic - Renovation of 2 classroom block to 6 staff rooms
- Mount Carmel Lower Basic - Maintenance & rehabilitation of 3 classroom blocks
- Soma Secondary School - Building of school well in conjunction with SUOTC
- Nyawurulung Lower Basic - Construction of 6 pit latrines
What You Can Do To Help
Although Primary school education is often free, parents have to provide pens, paper, books and even desks and chairs. If you wish to help in a small way, pencils, books, chalk etc are always welcomed and as they are not bulky will not take up much room in a suitcase.
Some of our clients have also generously brought outgrown and otherwise unwanted children's clothing, shoes, toys etc. We recommend that you see our resort staff locally who can advise you on distribution and please bear in mind your luggage allowance.
