One of our members of staff has been sponsoring a little girl, Lisa, in The Gambia for a number of years. After visiting Lisa and her school with a friend, they were determined to do more to improve children’s health and education there.
They got together with a few friends to put on a festival in West Sussex. In addition to raising money for the school and local health clinic, they wanted to promote multi-cultural awareness and bring to their home town a variety of world music and arts.
And so the charity “Nyodema” (which means “Helping Each Other” in Mandinka, one of The Gambia’s tribal languages) was born.
The festival has become an annual event and Nyodema now also organises a number of workshops and gigs throughout the year.
